How To Get The Right Visitors To Your Website
– The Type That Will Most Likely Buy From You –
It’s relatively easy to get traffic to your websites these days, especially using a few simple tricks.
What Doesn’t Work – I’ve seen business people come along on these sites and just push their products at you – that definitely doesn’t work.
What Does Work – is a more personal approach. Social networking is about letting people get to know you more intimately. Posting PHOTOS and VIDEOS works performs well for most. Celebrities like Nicole Kidmann, employ a professional to post daily pictures with small personalized quotes next to them. It’s not uncommon to see tens of thousands of “likes” for just one image.
I have a friend who’s a REAL ESTATE AGENT. He gets multiple clients from his friends list because he comes across as “genuine”. He posts pictures of homes he’s just sold, photos of workmates celebrating, lets us all know what movie he’s going to see etc. He isn’t just there to plug his wares – he’s there to have fun as well.
You also might be able to get someone to submit your website to StumbleUpon or Digg and watch your visitor numbers soar for 24 hours or so, but if you don’t have content they are interested in or an appropriate opt in box on your site to collect the names and emails of potential customers, they will have gone as quickly as they came.
But getting visits to your web pages from the people who will most likely buy from you takes some careful planning and consideration and should start long before you even launch your site to the public. There are some things you need to need to do first.
Keywords – Choose wisely the keywords that you want your website to be indexed for. (Use keyword checking software to ensure you are not competing in too large a field). Then include those keywords in your Main Heading, the navigation bar, in bold and italics on your pages and in the titles of articles and videos that are produced. But don’t over do it, or you might fail Google’s duplicate content check. These days, that duplicate page will be dumped into Google’s Supplemental Index.
Make Your Site, Search Engine Friendly – Search engines generally won’t easily index sites made with frames and flash. Make your site as HTML compliant as possible. Your content must be relevant to your keywords and if you have anything that has been copied and pasted from another website – get rid of it!
Make Your Site, Visitor Friendly – most people don’t like auto starting music. Text needs to be the right size and only one or two different fonts are recommended for use on each page. Use web safe colours and choose fonts styles that are viewable in most browsers. Make sure the pages are quick loading (less than 6 seconds or most of your visitors will be gone).
Get Your Website Reviewed – I regularly contribute to a forum where people submit their websites for review. You may not always like what you hear but because of the vast number of people who contribute (and when you take their combined experience into consideration), the advice given is generally very useful. People on the outside often see things that we completely overlook.
Link Exchanging – There is generally only benefit to exchanging links with sites that are higher ranking than yours and related to your chosen topic. One idea I’ve just recently heard of is to enter your strategic keyword phrases in Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc. and get in touch with the first 30 websites that come up to ask whether they can place a link to your website on theirs. This method ensures that the websites you contact are relevant to your pages and that they have adequate page rank to be in the top 30 results. A one way link from a high ranking website is like owning a hen that lays a golden egg.
Write Articles – Highly Recommended. Include your best keywords in articles and submit them to good Article Directory Sites. The ones that get the best response are generally devoid of ‘sales hype’ but they add value to the reader. Leave one or two simple links to your website in the Authors Bio at the bottom of the article with permission for others to publish the article as well, (providing they leave the links and authors bio attached). Many GOOD articles are picked up by other people and can travel quickly across the internet when they are used in E-Zines, emails, quoted on peoples blogs or placed on other web pages. I have found this method extremely successful to get FREE TARGETED traffic back to my sites…to me, simply getting traffic from just anywhere is NOT very useful…but specifically targeted traffic relating to my topic IS.
Make And Publish Videos – Include your best keywords in the title. Wisely choose the thumbnail picture that is shown on the video sharing site you have chosen. Some more extensive tips and tactics are shown in this article “Promoting Your Website – How To Get Noticed On YouTube”
Post In Forums – Regularly visit and contribute to forums that deal with topics like yours. When you look through Google, you will find many high ranking search results are links to topics and answers that have been posted on forums. If other forum members are curious about the posts you make, they will most likely follow the link to your site as they are already interested in that particular topic.
Make Comments On Other Peoples Blogs – The same as above applies here. Consider starting your own blog…but it must be maintained and added to regularly to be ranked well.
Affiliate Programs – Set up an affiliate program where you pay people a percentage of each sale for referring customers to you. Spread the word about your affiliate program by submitting it to affiliate program directories and contacting the owners of related websites.
(Side Note: This is on my recommended list because I know some people have very successful affiliate marketing programs, but it is something you need to research to find the most effective way to set up for yourself.)
E-Mail Signatures – Create an e-mail signature that describes very briefly the major benefit people will get if they buy your product/service etc. For example, “Discover Your Path To Success” or “Achieve Your Goals Faster“, and have that simple phrase linked to your website.
Free Viral Items – E-Books, Reports, Videos, Audios etc. What ever adds value to your customer whether it be, sound advice or something simply for entertainment. Supply news stories related to your site. People want current news on the topics they are interested in. You could also include “how to” articles or “hints and tips”.
Joint Venture – Join up with one or more people who work in a similar field to yours. There is power in numbers and the area that is your weakness, may be someone else’s strength. Make use of each others e-mail lists and develop a marketing strategy that sits well with each individual.
Surveys And Polls – Most people love to give advice. Take a survey by asking an interesting question that relates to your business such as “What Are The …….. that have influenced you the most?”. Make sure you capture their e-mail addresses to send them a link to the results and give them a chance to visit your website again and create another opportunity to make a sale.
