I’ve tried a few website hosting companies, especially when I first started out in 2007.
Understanding The Potential Problems
I’ve had experience with local Australian hosts, many have limited capabilities, complicated control panels and ridiculously poor support. One company advertised unlimited domains, but had limitations on the bandwidth I could use. I found that some of the cheaper overseas companies selling “reseller hosting” opened all my websites up to security risks.
So now I’ve become rather fussy.
What I Want From A Hosting Company
- I like to have a modern website control panel with access to the scripts I want, (like 1 click install of wordpress),
- I really, really appreciate excellent customer service and prompt replies to my questions
- I needed the ability to have multiple websites in one account
- Unlimited bandwidth would be wonderful
- Attention to security aspects
- A reasonably priced service
- And a high level of uptime
I Asked For It And I Got It
Just recently, I moved approx 20 of my websites over to HOSTGATOR WEBSITE HOSTING and not only did I get an incredibly good price upfront, they helped me move everything from the previous company, FREE.
THEN, they helped get my entire list of sites operating smoothly, by recommending various plugins and addons AND went way “above and beyond the call of duty” and helped me install a cache script than enables all my wordpress sites to load faster and run so much more efficiently.
But The Real Test
Nothing tests a relationship of any type more, than when you have a problem that needs to be solved.
One day I received emails every few minutes from one of my sites, notifying me of an issue in the backend. This issue was running processes that was draining the resources on the server, so my websites were all closed down temporarily.
I sent a support request to HOSTGATOR and asked how it could be solved, knowing they’d help, but not knowing exactly how I’d be able to detect the plugin that was causing the problem, nor knowing how to get in and fix it … but the support team did! I wasn’t on my computer at the time, so I sent an email through my mobile phone and asked if they could deactivate the offending plugin and restore my sites for me … and they did!
It was up to me to fix, but I asked for their assistance, and they did it with courtesy, understanding and ease.
There was no extra charge, there were no harsh words, there was just an understanding, that we’re all here to help each other.

I dunno about you, but I appreciate great service and support so much, people who do more than they’re expected to, and at the ridiculously reasonable price they ask I’ve paid for three years in advance and intend to stay for life.
